The bearded guide

Your guide in Tromsø.

Reidar is a certified guide and the "beard" behind the concept of The Arctic Moments. He was born and raised in Tromsø and did his guide education alongside the polar bears on the Spitsbergen islands and in the beautiful arctic city of Alta.

Being raised in Tromsø, his parents took him hunting, fishing, gathering, and skiing at an early age. Spending most vacations on the island of Senja, the seaside and boat life has a special place in his heart.

With a track record from the University of Tromsø, the Norwegian army, and a short career as a carpenter - Reidar has experience in different fields over the last 20 years. At the moment Reidar is working towards an all-year guide service dream in the city of Tromsø, and among other things taking small groups of guests on excursions during both the winter and summer.

With a special interest in photography and sustainable tourism, he is most likely the one taking you into arctic nature this season.

Tromsø
- a sustainable destination

Tromsø is among one of 16 places in Norway that are certified as a sustainable destination. The Arctic capital is a popular destination, and through sustainable tourism practices the environment, the local community, the cultural heritage, and the economy is preserved. Being certified as a sustainable destination requires long-term dedication and hard work to systematically reduce the negative impact of tourism.

As part of the low-impact development in the tourism sector, we recognize our responsibility and obligation to preserve nature and the environment. We want to create memorable experiences for our guests, and at the same time minimize the footprints we leave behind.

What we do

The Nordic Slow Adventure Philosophy

At The Arctic Moments we work through the nordic slow adventure philosophy, also known as friluftsliv in Scandinavia. There are many ways to explain what this means, but it has been described as "adventures with a rough- and unpolished luxury, where the luxury arises from a quiet intimacy with untouched nature, in a remote and beautiful environment".

It is easy to understand that our famous explorers Nansen, Amundsen, and Johansen lived by some of these principles exploring the white areas on the map, writing books about their quiet (and sometimes not so quiet) encounters with nature.

This kind of low-impact adventure is all about a high-quality, personalized & handmade experience as we want to take you out in the north Norwegian "wilderness" in a safe and comfortable way, but at the same time, you should feel somewhat in touch with nature and the elements.

Join us on an unforgettable time up north, and do get in touch if there is anything you would like to do not listed in the menu.
